Nanjangud, this is my hometown and I want to tell few things about this place. This town is situated in Mysore district in Southern India in the State of Karnataka. It is located on the banks of River Kapila also known as River Kabini. Located at about 23 km from Mysore City, this place is connected to it through frequent busses and trains taking about 30 minutes journey.
Nanjangud is one of the Hindu pilgrimage centres of Southern India and is known for the Huge Ancient Temple of Lord Srikanteshwara (Shiva) also known as Lord Nanjundeshwara, located in the town on the right bank of R.Kapila. Nanjangud is also known as "Dakshina Kashi" or " Varanasi or Prayag of South".
Nanjangud is developing at a faster rate in pace with Mysore. This place has more than 100 industries of which around 10 are medium to large scale industries.
Nanjangud has a very beautiful n comfortable weather throughout the year. The River Kapila will flow throughout the year providing adequate water for the domestic, agriculture and industrial purposes.
Nanju means poison, the name Nanjundeshwara means the God who Drank the Poison (Shiva) and the town got the name as Nanjangud which means the place of his residence.

Located at 12o 07' 20" N, 76o 41' E and 660 m above MSL. (approx), in the Deccan Plateau Region of the South Indian Peninsular. The R.Kapila originates in the region of Waynad in Kerala state and flows into Karnataka. The river passes through Nanjangud and joins the River Cavery neat a town called Thirumakodalu Narasipur (T. Narasipur).
